The Engine Goes In! Feb. 21, 2004
|
|
|
In the early morning
hours, and with the gearbox attached, SAND MAN's CAT D13000 diesel
was finally installed. This is the original CAT motor that has powered the
boat since 1944, and because of the sinking a few years ago, has
been completely rebuilt.
With the help of Snell Cranes Services on the ground, Paul Deranleau guides the engine into place.

With the signals to the crane operator, the engine slowly drops into place. |

Well, it wasn't quite that easy. Some adjustments had to be made to the rail mount. While Scott Schoch (L) makes the changes, Bob Powell (R) signals to have the crane lift the engine. | ![]() |

Bob makes the final push
and the bolts are put in.
The engine is installed.

| What went wrong? The engine was installed in just over an hour! With all these volunteers, apparently, there was no one on board named Murphy! |
