Hull Work in Port Townsand

 September - November, 2006

After appearing at the Wooden Boat Fair, Sand Man remained in Port Townsand for some needed hull work and other things that had to be done. Work was performed in the following areas:

Several New hull planks (not sure total number)
New iron on the stern post (supports rudder)
New combing around house
Cushion strip added to sponsons (makes them historically accurate)?
new bottom paint and topsides paint
new worm shoe on keel
new zincs
stem band blasted and painted.
new raw water intake pipe (shipwrights discovered that old one was completely rusted through).
fittings on fuel lines redone to stop leaking
all doors sanded and varnished
Name repainted to look same as it did historically (per old photos)
new electrical harness for running lights
Rudder and supporting iron work sanded, primed and painted.

Hull planks were replaced by workers at the shipwright;s co-op, with the rest of the work performed by volunteers, Craig Kinneman, Don Taylor, Paul Deranleau, Kyle Murphy, James Bauman,  Gary O'Neal, Earl Hughes and Joel Rett, who drove the long miles from Olympia in what was Washington State's wettest November on record! Gary Engbrecht of Pt. Townsand helped out as well.
